What is, or who are, the BVD Hash House Harriers?

Here’s how it works:  One or more ‘hares’ (really just people) set out running, leaving behind a trail of flour.  Ten to fifteen minutes later, the pack of ‘hounds’ (more people) set out, tracking the marks in hopes of catching up to, and snagging the hares.  The hares leave their marks clearly, but cleverly, so as to try and outwit the pack.  This is done by leaving false trails and by arranging for beer (or other adult beverages) stops along the way.

Competitive running is strongly discouraged, as this is not a race, but more of a game that we play before we drink.  Many of the hashers walk the entire trek, so if running is not for you, no worries!  The distance of the trail varies depending on the hares personal preference.  The run can be anywhere from 3-6 miles.  At the end of the trail, this group of lunatics (and you can be one of us) will form a fraternal circle (led by the Religious Advisor or GM), sing vulgar songs and come up with excuses for, and encouraging their comrades to chug beer (or other adult beverages)….like we need a reason!

What if I don't drink alcohol?

Even though we are a drinking club with a running problem, it is not necessary to partake in adult beverages to have a great time.  We do encourage all of our participants to stay adequately hydrated, particularly during those hellish Florida summer months, by providing chilled water for your consumption.

BVDH3 hosts trails all over Brevard county, although a majority of the trails are located in Melbourne and Palm Bay.  You can always look out for hash events occurring in neighboring counties, through the other links of interest web page, or even all over the world.

Each trail normally cost $5 per person to participate.  This is to cover the costs of the Hash Beer, other adult beverages, water, and “orange food” (a.k.a. cheese puffs, Nacho Doritos) provided during circle.  Some specialty trails have different costs (from free to more than $5), so read the event listing carefully.

BVD Hash House Harriers is a drinking club with a running problem, but we don’t always go running.  DP (drinking practice) is held most Thursdays at various establishments around the county.  Special events such as pub crawls (St. Paddy’s Day, Bar Golf, Red Dress, Toga, Hash-o-ween, and 12 Down-Downs of Christmas) also occur on an annual basis.  Special events such as DP Painting, Trash Pick-up and DP Bowling also occur on occasion.   We are always looking for new ideas for events, particularly new event coordinators!
